Mittagong Probus Visits the Fairground Follies.
The members of the Probus Club of Mittagong recently were enthralled during a visit to an exciting new attraction that has come to the NSW Southern Highlands, the Fairground Follies. The attraction brought back memories of childhood for many of the members. They were treated to morning tea followed by a tour and demonstration of this amazing collection.
This Antique Mechanical Music Museum is home to some of the world's most significant and historically unique pieces of fairground memorabilia including the 100-year-old English carousel (originally at Luna Park), with its 30 ornately handcrafted timber horses and cockerels, the Mortier Taj Mahal (101 key) organ built by the company Mortier in Belgium in 1924 (approx. 8m long x 8.5m high) and the ‘Golden Lion’ Dutch Street Organ.
Craig, the owner of these amazing antiques gave an in depth and passionate talk on each as they moved around. His enthusiasm for this venture was infectious.
A wonderful and novel morning for all the members who attended.
