Cowan a suspect from day one

Brett Peter Cowan, found guilty of murder, indecent treatment of a child and interfering with a corpse, was interviewed by a police officer just two weeks after Daniel Morcombe’s parents reported him missing. Cowan has been convicted of coercing Daniel into his car, driving him to a secluded building, killing him and then dumping his body in bushland. Cowan has an extensive criminal history, including two periods in jail for the sexual assault of two young boys. Seven News has all the details.

AFP drops Corby investigation

The Australian Federal Police have dropped the investigation into Schapelle Corby over the possibility of the convicted drug smuggler being paid for an interview with Channel 7. The AFP raided Seven Network’s offices in Sydney. All seized documents will be returned. Read more.

Egyptian terror suspect held in low-security prison due to ASIO error

An alleged Egyptian terrorist has been cleared for community detention, despite the fact that he was the subject of an Interpol red notice. ASIO was privy to the information which would have seen it reject the application for community detention, but due to communication problems within the agency, Sayed Abdel Latif spent 11 months in a low security centre in Adelaide. More bodies pulled from Harlem rubble

The death toll is currently at seven following the massive gas explosion that took down two high-rise apartment buildings in East Harlem, New York. The explosion injured more than 60 people and was so strong that it registered as an earthquake. News.com.au has the full story.

Pilot under scrutiny

The captain of the missing Malaysian Airlines jet is under scrutiny after it emerged that he is an engineering buff who assembled his own flight simulator. International searches around Southeast Asia have failed to find any evidence of the jet. Authorities are currently investigating all people on board for possible clues. Read more on Sky News.

Graphic images shown at Pistorius trial

Graphic photos of Oscar Pistorius’ home have been presented at his trial. The prosecution has argued that he and Reeva fought before she died, using police pictures and testimony to follow the trail from where Reeva’s body was in the entrance hall to the bathroom where she was shot. Read more.
