The humble lychee

Fraser Coast-Hervey Bay Combined Probus recently visited Tomarata Orchard, a lychee farm outside of Maryborough that makes lychee wine.

“From Lychee to Liquor”, the group followed the journey of the lychee from the tree to the bottle and onto the table. They had a lovely morning tea in the packing, grading and bottling shed on the farm, and then were taken through the orchard to hear how the harvesting is carried out.

Then it was out to the huge dam that irrigates the farm and provides water for their beef cattle. The group all took turns in a boat ride on the dam.

After this it was back to their retail outlet on the highway, Lychee Divine, for a sumptuous lunch with a tasting of the wines, champagnes and even lychee tea.
