Greet the spring by getting outside. Even if it’s just a few pots on a deck, a garden provides lots of exercise and the fresh air we need to keep healthy.

Tip: Don’t do too much to start with, as muscles tend to be sluggish at first.

Mix vegetables and flowers (a potager) for a productive and decorative look.

Tip: Choose beans and peas with pretty flowers, or silverbeet with coloured stems to enhance your floral colour scheme.

Bring back the bees with herbs like lavender, rosemary and thyme.

Tip: Growing from seed is very cost-effective: share surplus with friends.
