Rose City Warwick celebrates 40 years of Probus
15 Aug 2014
The Rose City Warwick Probus Club celebrated the 40th anniversary of Probus South Pacific during the Jumpers and Jazz Festival in Queensland.
While the first Probus club was formed in New Zealand in 1974, the first Australian club was launched at Hunters Hill, NSW later that same year.
Probus Clubs are formed to foster an active retirement for community members through the ideals of fun, fellowship and friendship. They are sponsored the Rotary Club as a community service, and the name was chosen for the club as a contraction of ‘professional and business’.
All retired or semiretired members of the community are encouraged to enjoy the company of like-minded peers at their local Probus Club. Meetings are arranged with a minimum of business and feature such events as guest speakers, morning tea and excursions.
In addition to the Warwick locals, 13 members of the Stanthorpe club attended the celebration.
