Visit to the "City of Adelaide"

Members of the Prospect Men's Probus club (SA) visited the "City of Adelaide" clipper ship at Port Adelaide.

The vessel was salvaged from Scotland in 2014 and is currently on a barge awaiting a final resting place. (The time and effort to extract the vessel from Scotland is a story in itself) It is a steel framed timber clad vessel (oldest in the world) purpose built in Sunderland in 1864 to bring immigrants from the UK to Adelaide.

23 return trips were made. The only other surviving Clipper Ship is the younger "Cutty Sark".

The visit included an internal tour where it could be examined close up. The cost of bringing it to Adelaide has been covered by donations and a large cost is still to be borne for restoration.
