IS THIS A RECORD?
31 May 2016
At The Probus Club of Glen Osmond, South Australia, John Higgins has been organizing walks for members since July 2004. We call it Strolling With A Purpose (SWAP). John has organized over 108 walks. The attached pictures show John with a walking group on the 108th outing.
John and his wife Liz research each walk by walking the walk, assessing the degree of difficulty and the general terrain, researching the history of the area and its buildings and points of interest and working out the start and finish points and available parking.
Walks have included botanic gardens, iconic buildings, historic suburbs, cemeteries, school campuses and recently completed constructions of all sorts. Each stroll takes 1 to 2 hours followed by lunch afterwards.
John shows no sign of retiring from this project and we hope he strolls on for many years to come. We would be interested to know if any other club has a longer record of service by one member. We think John might hold the record.
