100 not out
25 Feb 2015
There was a very special celebration at the December meeting of the Probus Club of Port Stephens. Member Harold Stanton reached the wonderful age of 100 on 27 November and he was presented with his “100 not out” Centenarian Certificate by President George Hammond. Harold’s son, Rodney, also joined him for this occasion - Harold said he was just about partied out!
Harold cut his cake and joined the members for a morning tea provided by the ladies. It was a good opportunity for him to catch up with some old friends and all enjoyed the fellowship and the opportunity to congratulate Harold.
The other thing to mention, which is quite unique, is that another much-loved active centenarian was there as well. Cyril Blowes who was crowned Prince of Probus when he turned 100 in 2013 was by Harold’s side. There would not be too many Probus clubs who could boast two active members of this grand age. They both became members not long fter the club launched and have clocked up 59 years between them.
As is evident, this mixed gender club has a very wide age demographic as it has been going for nearly 32 years and welcomes singles and couples who are retired or semi-retired.
