Annual Probus Bowls Day
02 Jun 2015
The annual Rochester Probus Bowls Day was held on Monday 20th April at the Rochester Bowls Club in excellent conditions, except for the wind. 30 teams were in attendance representing Probus Clubs from Benalla, Seymour, Deniliquin to mention but a few plus teams from Rochester. Bowlers were met with a very nice morning tea which set the tone for an enjoyable day of bowls.
Following morning tea and a welcome by Rochester Bowls Club secretary Bob Knight and Rochester Probus Club President Geoff Marshall a spider was conducted followed by twelve ends of bowls. After a delicious lunch two games of eight ends were played.
The Probus Association of Victoria provides a perpetual trophy and medallions to the winning team. This year the presentation was made by Dian Wright, PAV Vice President who travelled to Rochester with her husband Lew. Winners and Runners up both received a cash prize.
The winning team with a score of 28 was from Shepparton Central Probus Club led by Jim Campbell, and the runner up with a score of 24 was from Campaspe Murray Probus Club led by Noel Milgate.
Other prizes were won by bowling to the “spider”, resting toucher, random draw from cards and Rochester Bowls Club provided an encouragement award for the losing team.
Ladies from the Rochester Probus Club did a magnificent job catering for all the meals and are to be congratulated for their contribution which ensures the success of the day. The success of the day also rests with the support from members who assisted on the day. The host club, Rochester Bowls Club lived up to its reputation by providing excellent greens and amenities.
