Victor Harbor Granite Island Probus Club Annual Caravan trip
06 Jun 2017
The Victor Harbor Granite Island Probus Club arrange a Caravan and Cabin Odyssey around March/April every year. This year members headed to Wallarooo, York Peninsula SA for a week.
The North Beach Tourist Park is where around 40 members settled for a great week exploring the Copper Triangle. The first function was a BBQ in the Park. Local Probus Clubs were invited; so 130 ate & chatted until dark. Monday members attended the Moonta Probus Club monthly meeting when one of clubs Members Stewart Leggett was their guest speaker “Against the Odds”, members joined them for lunch at a local Hotel. Next day 40 excited Members met at the Coffee Barn for delicious savoury and sweet pancakes, topped off with their yummy artisan Gelato.
Another highlight was a special day organised by the Copper Coast Probus Club in Moonta with a trip on the Moonta Mines tourist railway, complete with commentary, before Cornish Pasties arrived straight from the oven.
One of our traditions is a Petanque competition which is always followed by a meal in camp. This year it was Fish ‘n’ Chips on the lawns by the beach as members watched the colourful sun set over Spencers Gulf.
History abounds in this beautiful area, aptly named the Copper Coast, which was settled by the Cornish Miners from 1860’s in Moonta, Kadina and Wallaroo. The Copper Triangle celebrates their Cornish culture with a festival; “Kernewek Lowender” every two years.
To add to the Club’s excitement, two of the members arrived from winning gold medals at the annual Dragon Boat competition in Adelaide, they are Marion Bennett & Eileen Brown.
