Twenty-one Scarborough Beach Combined Probus members enjoyed a memorable day exploring the Avon Valley, meeting camels and discovering some of Toodyay’s treasures.
The first stop was Gidgineup Bakery, where members enjoyed morning tea before travelling on to Noble Falls. After a stroll and a chance to enjoy the surrounds, they continued to Dromedary Farm in Morangup for the highlight of the day.
At the farm, members learnt about dromedary camels, their history in Australia and how these fascinating animals are cared for. The real fun began when they had the opportunity to get up close and feed the herd. It was certainly an experience that generated plenty of smiles and photographs!
The group then made its way to Toodyay, stopping at the Victoria Hotel for lunch. With everyone refreshed, members set off to explore the town on foot.
Toodyay offered plenty to see, including its heritage buildings, historic streets and interesting shops. A particular attraction was the second-largest Christmas store in Australia, which provided an impressive display of decorations and plenty of browsing opportunities.
Members also visited the quaint post office and enjoyed wandering through the town, discovering reminders of its fascinating past along the way. Toodyay’s combination of heritage, local shops and country atmosphere made it an enjoyable afternoon.
With a full day behind them, the group headed home after another successful Probus outing, filled with good company, new experiences, plenty of laughter and, of course, some very memorable encounters with camels.
A great day was had by all, and the camels certainly gave members something to talk about on the journey home. Thanks to everyone who attended!
