The Central Coast Probus Club Tasmania recently held its first-ever Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council.
The event was a great success, raising $215 on the day and bringing the total contribution to $258, with additional support from Amie Hewitt and Fran Harris. The club expressed its appreciation to all those who contributed, helping to raise funds for an important cause.
A special feature of this year’s event was the support from Dilmah Tea, a sponsor of the campaign, which doubled all donations made on the day. This generous initiative significantly boosted the club’s overall fundraising efforts.
Members enjoyed a warm and social morning tea, complete with a selection of delicious treats. Special thanks were extended to Liz Rummery, Marie Harrop, and Robert Marshall for their assistance in setting up the event.
The gathering also featured a guest speaker, Jim Spinks, who shared fascinating stories from his explorations to Antarctica and Heard Island. His presentation captivated attendees as he described the extreme conditions he experienced at sea, including ship movements of up to 25 degrees and waves reaching 20 metres. His account of nearly missing his voyage, and his wife’s encouragement to pursue the opportunity of a lifetime, added a personal touch to his story.
At 61, Jim also underwent a rigorous medical examination prior to travel and spoke about his background as a teacher at Savage River, where he had taught some of the members’ children.
The club warmly thanked Jim for his engaging presentation and looks forward to welcoming him back for a future talk.
