Members of the Woodcroft Probus Club enjoyed a wonderful three-night holiday in early May at the Riverland town of Renmark, with 39 members attending and staying at the Echo Riverfront Caravan Park.
Many members had a cabin or caravan right on the riverfront, where they could sit outside with a coffee while watching ducks, swans and riverboats pass by amidst stunning surroundings. On the first day, members gathered near the river’s edge to enjoy Barry’s Bar, followed that evening by a delicious dinner at the Renmark Community Club.
On the second day, the group walked across the bridge to the Paringa Museum, where a volunteer provided a very informative talk and exhibits about the early days of Renmark. Of special interest was a visit to the nearby Chookman’s Boat, owned by a very colourful and now very senior local man who once lived permanently on his houseboat with his chickens. He still lives on it occasionally and was present during the visit, which proved to be a real eye-opener.
The third day included a visit to Woolshed Brewery. On the way, members stopped at Headings Cliff Lookout and enjoyed amazing views of the Murray River. Surrounded by beautiful wetlands, the brewery offers visitors the opportunity to sit at tables overlooking the water while enjoying their own picnic food and drinks from the brewery.
Members also took the opportunity to enjoy activities and visits of their own interest, including river walks and local shops.
The holiday was a wonderful experience, and members thanked President Barry for organising it all.
