Members of the Ipswich Probus Club visited Government House in Brisbane, Queensland, on 18 March 2026, with 29 people taking part in the outing.
After travelling by bus, the group was greeted by guides who did an excellent job throughout the visit. They shared the history of “Fernberg” (German for distant mountain), which was purchased in 1911 as the residence for the Governor, replacing the old Government House built in 1862 at Gardens Point.
Members were shown through the residence, admiring the furniture, photos of past Governors, paintings and a stained-glass window.
The visit concluded with a tour of the garage, where members admired the 1972 Phantom 6 Rolls-Royce official vehicle. Of particular interest was the fact that, while all vehicles in Queensland must have a number plate, the Rolls-Royce displays a crown in its place, with the number plate carried in the boot.
