Six members of Wanniassa Probus attended a self-guided visit to the National Dinosaur Museum, with all attendees serving on the Club’s Committee.
The group explored the museum at its own pace, reading about and interacting with the incredible displays of dinosaur fossils and models representing land, marine and flying species. Some of the animatronic dinosaurs moved, snarled and made a variety of sounds, occasionally surprising members as they walked past and providing plenty of laughs.
The displays were comprehensive, covering hundreds of millions of years of history through to the final appearance and extinction of the dinosaurs. Models of eggs and insects were also on display. Members were particularly impressed by the detailed information accompanying each exhibit and the impressive size of the reconstructed creatures. Interpreting the age of some fossils proved a challenge, with everything measured in millions of years.
The visit left members feeling far more informed and enlightened than when they arrived. The group then headed to a nearby coffee shop to reflect on the experience over coffee. It was a brilliant excursion and one the Club would highly recommend to anyone visiting Canberra.
