Herbs, History, and a Hearty Lunch

Port of Goolwa Probus members enjoyed an engaging talk by guest speaker Jeff Mogg on the topic of Healthy Herbs. Although Jeff trained as a teacher, he was inspired by his father-in-law to study herbal medicine in Queensland, ultimately earning a PhD. Returning to teaching, he brought with him extensive knowledge and a passion for herbs, guiding members through the “dos” and even some “don’ts” of using them.

On 18 February, ten members travelled to Seaford to catch the city-bound train for a guided tour of Parliament House, hosted by local member David Basham. The tour offered fascinating insights into the history and workings of South Australia’s political system, past and present. The train journey was an added highlight, with Seniors Card holders travelling free, making the trip both convenient and enjoyable. Plans are already underway for another excursion later this year.

After the tour, members returned to Seaford Station for a hearty lunch at The Guardsman, where the staff provided attentive service. Many members took advantage of the “2-for-1 schnitzel” offer, while Wendy and Deane’s orders of fish and chips were impressively large—enough, they joked, to feed a small village.
