Hip Hip Hooray
26 Oct 2018
The Mana Combined Probus Club celebrated its 20th birthday at their July 2018 meeting.
Promoted by the Plimmerton Rotary Club Mana Probus came into existence largely through the efforts and enthusiasm of foundation president Arthur Gandy and current life member Spencer Harris. The first meeting on 28th May 1998 was attended by 60 people from Tawa to Pukerua Bay. Today with a membership of 123 it’s pleasing that 16 of the foundation members, 5 of whom are ex-presidents and 2 active life members still attend the monthly meetings.
A full anniversary programme saw past presidents Ken Rae, Derek Shepherd and Geraldine Lyndhurst briefly trip down memory lane recounting what Probus meant to them enjoying the outings, guest speakers, fellowship, friendship and fun!
Jenny Lucas immediate past president of Plimmerton Rotary Club expressed congratulations for 20 years accomplished and wished the club well for the future. She then presented 17 foundation members with their 20 year certificates followed by life members Ken Rae, Spencer Harris, Derek Shepherd and Colin Rodgers cutting the 20th anniversary cake.
With the beautifully sung items from the Porirua College Barbershop Quartet still ringing in everybody’s ears the final act of a memorable celebratory meeting was a well presented enjoyable luncheon.
