12 Jun 2019
The Probus Club of Newcastle celebrated its 35th Anniversary in March, at the annual President’s Luncheon.
The Probus Club of Newcastle’s membership includes former BHP executives, RAAF officers, manufacturers, university academics, retailers and more.
68 members attended the 35th Anniversary Celebration luncheon and included members, wives, and invited guests Mr Peter Sivyer (District 9670 Rotary District Probus Chairman) and Mr Tony McKenzie (President Rotary Club of Newcastle).
The Rotary Probus District Chairman, Peter Sivyer, presented our current President, David Brown, with a 35th Anniversary Certificate.
Only one of our two remaining Foundation Members was able to attend the luncheon, and the President presented Mr Oscar Westbury with a certificate acknowledging his 35 years of membership, a few days after his 99th birthday. A 35 years certificate was sent to our other Foundation Member, Mr Doug Bowman who is now over 100 years old.
Foundation Member, Oscar Westbury and President, David Brown then cut the 35th Anniversary cake together.
After the taking of a number of group photos, everyone relaxed and enjoyed their meal and fellowship.
Overall, the history of the Probus Club of Newcastle has been one of steady success and incremental fine tuning to keep up with the changing world we live in. The members are all rightly proud of achieving this 35th anniversary, and look forward to the continuing success in the future.
