Rossmoyne Ladies Probus Club visited Catalpa Memorial in Rockingham, south of Perth.
There was an interesting presentation by author Joy Lefroy, who with her husband wrote about the escape of six Fenion prisoners from Fremantle Prison on the American whaling vessel “Catalpa”.
The memorial was erected in 2012 and commemorates the six Irish political prisoners who made the daring escape, which has been recorded as the most audacious prison break of 1876.
