Most clubs have a well-earned break after the December meeting until the February meeting the following year, allowing members to enjoy the festive season with family and friends.
This year, however, Croydon Park Probus members enjoyed their activities so much that the Club decided not to have a complete break, with some activities even planned as annual events.
The three walking groups—Coffee Strollers, Walk ‘n’ Talk and Paws Walks—continued to meet, as did the monthly Men’s Brunch, the Book Group and 500 cards.
For quite a few years, one of the Club’s founding couples has opened their home in January for lunch, and they did so again this year.
Last year, a group of seven ladies organised a Chicken and Champagne brunch at a member’s home in January, and the same group did so again this January. The food was magnificent, the table decorations stunning (made by one member), and those attending apparently drank more champagne than they did last year!
The ladies have even had aprons printed with “Bubbles” on them and have bought earrings shaped like bottles of champagne. It is suspected that they are already planning another repeat in 2027.
The Club also holds a monthly evening dine-out, and last year the group visited the January Night Market at the Queen Victoria Market. It proved so popular that it was organised again this January. David once again booked an area of tables for 60 members, allowing everyone to return to the group after choosing their meals. Many members traveled by train and enjoyed a fabulous evening of food from many different countries.
