Koala Information Session
16 Aug 2021
The Port Macquarie Combined Probus Club had a representative from the Koala Hospital come as a guest speaker and talk at the monthly meeting. The Koala Hospital gained quite a reputation during the bush fires of 2019, due to the number of animals that perished during the bush fires and the work that the Koala Hospital was doing to keep many koalas safe, and the care that burned animals were given. There were many koalas lost during the fires, but many of those that were burned and had lost their homes, have now been rehabilitated and set free into the wild again.
The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is the only hospital for koalas in the world. It is a wildlife rehabilitation facility, scientific research and education centre, and popular tourist attraction. The members enjoyed the information session and got the opportunity to get up close and personal with one of the Koalas that was terribly burned in the bushfires but survived after month of rehabilitation at the hospital.
