Members enjoy a trip to the Land of the Long White Cloud

Conder Lanyon Probus Club members Joe and Mary Slaats enjoyed a 9 Day South Island Tour for 2, valued at over $6400 after entering a competition to advise in 30 words or less why New Zealand would be magical on a coach holiday. The prize was provided by PSPL National Sponsor Grand Pacific Tours.

Joe and Mary told us it was a wonderful and well organized tour, with a wonderful group of people. The Coach Captain on the trip,  Geoff Painter by name (Photo of him in front of the fallen tree) could not do enough for everyone on board and went that extra mile to make the tour more pleasant.

However mother nature was less kind and decided to hide the beautiful snow capped mountains in rain and mist.  It even decided to throw a big tree on the road as they were about to approach Franz Josef Glacier, putting the tour behind by 2 hours and 35 minutes on the very last day.

Joe and Mary arrived at Arthurs Pass railway station in the nick of time to board the Tranz/Alpine for their trip to Christchurch.  What a wonderful experience it was as they travelled through the Waimakariri Basin and the patchwork of farmlands of the Canterbury Plains.

Although the mountains were covered with mist and rain as they sailed in Milford Sound; the size and number of waterfalls around the fjord was amazing. Actually “spectacular” is a better word to describe the waterfalls.

The Special Haggis ceremony was a fun event.  Keeping a straight face as they guarded the Haggis with a sword drawn was the hardest part of the evening.  It certainly created a few laughs.

Joe and Mary said they could go on and on about their wonderful experiences, the Skipper Canyon experience, the Haas River Jet Boat experience and the Larmach Castle experience to name but a few.
