Remembering good times

It has been over six months without an outing for East Malvern Combined Probus Club – unless you count a cheery hello exchange across the street while exercising.

When the year started, the Club managed a few outings, including the Hellenic Museum and Lost Trades Fair, before going into lockdown.

“We had planned a very happy and active few months with dine outs – now a no, no,” says publicity officer Aileen Tesoriero. “Book club meetings were moved online, coffee and cake became make your own at home, our annual dinner dance was cancelled (last year’s theme was Red, this year’s theme was to be Black and White) so now we get dressed up to attend an online meeting.

“So many outings cancelled, I wondered if our club would ever be the same.

“The friendship established over the years have remained strong. Our webmaster has turned his skill to providing a newsletter to all members. This has included updates on members, quizzes, jokes and exercise programs from a generous local physiotherapist.

“The book borrowing has taken a new direction with members being able to borrow online and pick up and return books to the coordinator.

“Our secretary has turned his hand to writing and singing ditties which are shared with all members via email – these make us smile and remember the good times.

“We eagerly await the return of our Club meetings and outings and celebrating the friendship of fellow Probians.”
