Combined Probus Club of Eden Hills 20th Anniversary
12 May 2017
Members of the Combined Probus Club of Eden Hills celebrated their Club’s 20th birthday with a lunch for 81 people at St. Francis Winery, Old Reynella, on 13th March 2017.
Honoured guest, Foundation Member Nicky Richards, cut the special birthday cake, made by member Margaret Jesse. Invited guests included Douglas Geekie, Chairman, Probus South Pacific Ltd.; Barry Pryor, Probus Chairman of Rotary District 9520; and Kevin Marsh, Secretary, Rotary Club of Blackwood.
Probus Clubs are established by Rotary to provide opportunities for retirees to remain active and involved during their post-employment years. Mr. Geekie says: “Probus is about the maximisation of fun, fellowship and friendship for our club members.” Probus aims “to stimulate thought, interest and participation in activities at a time of life when horizons may be narrowing and opportunities to make new friends may be limited”.
In his address to the members, Mr. Geekie gave a brief overview of the first forty years of Probus in Australia and New Zealand. Looking to the future, he stressed the necessity over the next few years both to maintain existing membership and also to expand the number of Probus Clubs in order to meet the needs of “baby boomers” now commencing retirement in large numbers
