Our Origions.

The Probus Club of Carlingford Inc. came into being in on 4 October 1983 with ten members, sponsored by Carlingford Rotary Club, and since then has grown into a group of like-minded people who enjoy nothing better than to meet once a month, hear an interesting speaker, chin-wag over a cuppa and attend a monthly outing, of which more later. We were a Men’s Club,but recently our members decided we should become a mixed club.

Our monthly meetings were originaly held at 9.45am on the first Tuesday of the month at Muirfield Golf Club, Barclay Road, North Rocks, which had been our meeting place since inception. The only two exceptions to this are that there is no January meeting, and that the November meeting is held on the first Monday because of Melbourne Cup Day commitments by the Golf Club.Meetings begin with a guest speaker expounding on a subject of interest, followed by a leisurely morning tea, and then a short and informal business meeting to follow. This usually includes reports on the Club’s activities, what is happening in the wider Probus world, and at most meetings a member’s contribution of an anecdote of his choosing. At some meetings the speaker’s topic is specially chosen to attract the ladies along as well.

Once a month, with January again being excepted, an enjoyable outing is arranged by our Outings Committee, and the list of forthcoming such events can be found elsewhere on this website. These are generally one-day events to a place of interest or a convivial lunch, but in March each year we have a coach outing of several days duration to a different locality each time, where we base ourselves and tour the surrounding districts.

We are also in the course of establishing special activity, such as a walking group. There are already included but is not limited to, bowls and golf teams, a bridge group and men’s lunches.

We charge a one-time fixed joining fee of $25, after which annual membership is currently $45– just over $4 a month – plus an optional your cost for morning teas through the year and a modest optional charge for the Probus magazine Active Retirees. These subscription charges are pro-rated depending when in the year a member might join.

The Probus motto is “friendship, fellowship and fun”, and we believe we can satisfy all your needs in this regard.
