A poem by Penguin Probus Club
26 Nov 2025
Penguin Probus Club recently wrote a lovely poem to congratulate the 50th birthday of Probus next year in 2026.
Our young club is born, while our parent turns 50!
After decades of work, we’ve time to enjoy
Unfolding activities for seniors so nifty
Coffees galore, cappuccino or soy?
By the old railway tracks, where history sleeps
With papers and photos from Penguin’s past
An emerging fellowship tentatively creeps
Inheriting memories with a foundation to last.
Community members respond to the call
To gather, connect, share and befriend
Gently penetrating an invisible wall
Creating bonds, that hopefully won’t end.
This fledgling group is finding its feet
With interest soaring and members brand new
A committee created so quickly, it’s sweet
So much goodwill, and much to pursue.
From local to global, from history to now
Our speakers inspire, warming the heart
A story from Susan shares her journey of how
She fought her fear, with joy to impart.
Craig provokes thought - how did it all start?
The settlers came – so brave and so bold
Their love for this island, straight from the heart
A treasured home, more valued than gold.
Our forebears would be proud of what we’ve become
With the Op Shop’s authentic, caring support
Lenny’s account shows how much has been done
The heartbeat of town, a stunning report!
Our tribe is excited to experience much more
And Kerry discloses his lifestyle abroad
Life in Russia – there’s much to explore
We go on his journey, mentally ‘aboard’.
Knowledge is shared in the old station room
With common goals, we slowly unite
The meeting’s warmth dispels any gloom
Penguin Probus now is spreading the light!
