Thirty-six Russley Probus members gathered in Invercargill for their annual seven-day tour of Southland, visiting Riverton, Gemstone Beach and the historic Clifden Suspension Bridge before taking in the beauty of Lakes Manapouri and Te Anau. Highlights included a high-speed voyage across Lake Manapouri, a journey over Wilmot Pass to Doubtful Sound, and a cruise through the tranquil waters of the sound, with magnificent waterfalls and seal colonies along the way. The group also enjoyed glow worms, a bird sanctuary, the Fiordland Cinema and its spectacular Ata Whenua film, and the iconic Kingston Flyer vintage steam train.
The tour continued with visits to the Croydon Aviation Heritage Centre, Owaka Museum, Nugget Point Lighthouse, Purakaunui Falls and the Lost Gypsy Gallery. St Patrick’s Day celebrations at Sandy’s Café at Shag Point added to the fun, followed by visits to Matai Falls and Lake Wilkie before the final meal at Niagara Falls Café. It was a remarkable and memorable tour enjoyed by all.
