Combined Probus Club of Sherwood Friendship & fellowship Group

Dorothy Eyears, the convenor of the Combined Probus Club of Sherwood, “For the Love of Gardens- Friendship & Fellowship” group, and also a volunteer guide at the Botanical Gardens at Mt Cootha delighted members by arranging a visit to the Herbarium at Mt Cootha Gardens.

Here members were guided through areas of the Herbarium which are not as a general rule open to the public.  To see some of the 850,000 specimens so wonderfully catalogued was an experience in itself, but the highlight was seeing specimens collected from Queensland by Sir Joseph Banks and Dr. Daniel Solander, the botanists who accompanied Captain James Cook in 1770.

All still in excellent condition after 247 years.  On leaving the Herbarium, Dorothy gave members a guided walk through the gardens to the Japanese Gardens where we all enjoyed a welcome cup of tea/coffee.
